The Women's Forum

Women's Forum Speakers and Programs, 2012-13

The Women of St. Stephen’s and their guests are cordially invited to the Women’s Forum on the first Tuesday of the month, October through May, with a break in January. There is no charge and no registration required for the Women’s Forum. Please note that this year, one of the monthly gatherings takes place in the evening, and another takes place off-site. Margie Woodson Nea: “Gifts of the Spirit”
Margie Nea, a gifted and widely traveled photographer, will speak at the monthly Women’s Forum in March. Her topic is “Gifts of the Spirit,” and she will show images from her photographic journey over the years, highlighting both her love of the beauty of creation, and for the women and children she has met around the world.

Dr. Kinloch Nelson | World Pediatric Project
If you read about conjoined twins who were successfully separated at the Medical College of Virginia, you’ve heard of the World Pediatric Project. Dr. Nelson is a founding board member of World Pediatric Project and has been a volunteer physician with the organization since its inception over a decade ago. WPP is a local non-profit that reaches critically ill children in developing countries in the Caribbean and Central America. Dr. Nelson has made innumerable trips to Belize to perform life-changing surgeries, and his church, Grace and Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, has hosted many visiting WPP children through the years.

Connie LaPallo is a descendant of one of the first women settlers at Jamestown, and is the author of Dark Enough to See the Stars in a Jamestown Sky and When the Moon Has No More Silver.

Weezie Blanchard, our vicar, will give a guided tour of St. Stephen’s nave and explain the stories and symbols behind our beautiful stained glass windows.

Michael Simpson and Friends | Annual Christmas Program & Luncheon

Michael Simpson, director of the Richmond Renaissance Singers, accompanist for the Richmond Symphony Chorus, and organist at Second Presbyterian Church, returns to St. Stephen’s for this program of seasonal music. Michael served as Associate Director of Music here from 2006-2011.

Ladies Night Out | Speaker: Nadine Marsh Carter, President and CEO, Children’s Home Society of Virginia
This event was such a tremendous success during its first year that we are offering it again. It’s a wonderful evening of fun, fellowship, food and a fascinating speaker. ADVANCE REGISTRATION AND PAYMENT REQUIRED. Space is limited. The $22 cost includes reception, dinner and program with Nadine Marsh Carter, speaking on "Adoption Trends and the Faith Community."

Nadine enjoys many strong connections to CHS because she is a CHS adoptive parent, former member of the CHS Board of Directors, and attorney who provided legal counsel to families adopting through the agency.  Prior to joining the CHS staff, she served as the Executive Director of Volunteer Families (VF).  Before working at VF, she practiced law at Hill, Tucker & Marsh Law Firm.
Nadine has been appointed a Hull Fellow in Philanthropy by the Southeastern Council of Foundations.  She serves on the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) Foundation President’s Council. Nadine is also a member of the Virginia State Bar.  She has served on several nonprofit boards, including as a Trustee of the Richmond Memorial Health Foundation National Network for Youth Policy Council, the Mid Atlantic Network for Youth (MANY), the Old Dominion Bar Association, and Richmond Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA).
She has also served on the alumni associations for both the University of Richmond and the T.C. Williams School of Law.  Nadine has been a presenter at the National Network for Youth Symposium in Washington D.C., the Business Women’s Network Leadership Summit, the National Host Homes Conference sponsored by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and the Jepson School of Leadership Studies at the University of Richmond.  Her greatest accomplishment has been the adoption of her two children, Kaitlyn (13) and David Samuel (11).
